[Italy Scholarship]: PhD scholarship in Physics and Applied Physics at University of Naples

Admission to the Research Doctorate program in fundamental and applied physics normally requires passing a selection based on a written and oral examination (in Italian or English), taken in two different days at our University (further information on this selection is provided only in Italian at the following web page). However, international students (i.e. students who graduated abroad and who presently reside abroad) may also apply to a special pre-selection which will be initially based only on the curriculum vitae, qualifications and references as explained below (a master of science or equivalent degree in physics or in a related subject is required for admission; however, a very strong four-years bachelor may also be considered sufficient). Short-listed candidates will be then invited for an oral examination or interview. The latter will typically be held by web-conference or by telephone call from an Italian consular structure.

If these certificates are not already written in either Italian, English, French, Spanish or German, you will have to add a legal translation into one of these languages.
• List of all courses and examinations taken, with a short description of their contents and with the corresponding grades obtained. Include also a brief explanation of the grading system used in your country/university and, if possible, information about the grade statistical distribution (e.g., the percentile of students obtaining that grade or higher).

Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong in 2009, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD studies in Hong Kong's institutions.

The University of Agder invites applications for a full-time fixed-term appointment as PhD Research Fellow in ICT/mobile communication for a period of three years, at the Department of Information and Communication Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Science. The Faculty of Engineering and Science offers master’s and PhD programmes in ICT. With more than 30 academic staff and an extensive network of Norwegian and international partner universities, the Faculty, with its regional industrial partners, constitutes one of the largest research and development environments within mobile communications in Norway.
The position is intended to address issues related to future wireless, residential applications and supporting infrastructures. Potential research topics for the PhD study include:

The neXt Generation multimedia technology (XGMT) group at the Open University in collaboration with the Optical Information Systems group at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) in Berlin are offering two jointly-funded, 3-year full-time PhD studentships commencing in October 2010. The general research topics will be in multi-sensor navigation for mobile robots and 3-D medical imaging. In particular: 1) the investigation of techniques for the fast derivation of high-quality depth information from optical sensors data and subsequent 3-D mapping to facilitate up-to-date spatial environment maps; and 2) the fusion of different medical image modalities i.e. CAT and MRI to accurately estimate the orientation of the human body by observation of surfaces without access to fixed orientation points. All applicants must either have or expect to gain a good Honours degree (at least a 2i standard or equivalent) in Information Communications Technology, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related area. The Signal Processing Lab at the School of Electrical Engineering at The Royal Institute of Technology is seeking Ph.D students in Signal Processing
KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering, as well as architecture, industrial engineering and management, urban planning, work science and environmental engineering. Research project

The Signal Processing Lab at the School of Electrical Engineering conducts research in statistical signal processing and signal processing for communications. Research topics include channel modelling, transmission and coding techniques, receiver algorithms and detection, resource management and optimization, radio measurements, instrumentation, positioning and navigation, UWB ranging. They are now seeking Ph.D. students to their research projects that address key issues in positioning, navigation, wireless communications, and communication channel modeling and estimation.

Their Ph.D. program is highly competitive and aimed at only the most motivated students.
