PhD Position in Psychology at University of Surrey, UK

2013 Funded Studentships 

Applications are invited for funded studentships as part of the South East Doctoral Training Centre (SE DTC) (http://southeastdtc.surrey.ac.uk/), to commence in October 2013. 

The School of Psychology at the University of Surrey is a major contributor to postgraduate training in the UK. In the last UFC research assessment exercise, the School of Psychology received a 5 rating, confirming it as one of the leading Psychology research schools in Britain. The School provides an active and vibrant research environment for PhD students. It has state of the art facilities in experimental and neuroimaging laboratories (EEG, MRI and TMS), a driving simulator and facilities for behavioural observation. 


Proposals are encouraged in any of the areas in which the School has expertise covering three broad themes: Enhancing Thinking, Health and Wellbeing, and Brain and Behaviour. We particularly welcome applications in the following areas: 

- cognitive processes,  e.g. reasoning, problem solving, decision making, creative thinking 
- developmental psychology, e.g. infant colour perception and cognition 
- environmental psychology, e.g. climate change, sustainable consumption, environmental risks, restorative environments 
- social psychology, e.g.  identities, history of psychology, attitudes, religion and spirituality 
- forensic psychology, e.g. decision making in the criminal justice setting, risk taking, intelligence analysis, false confessions 
- health and well-being, e.g. health and stress, eating and exercise behaviour, risk communication in healthcare contexts, health and nutrition policy and interventions 
- neuroscience, e.g. understanding creativity, representation of action, functional connectivity 
- neuropsychology, e.g. sleep and cognition in neurodisorders 

DTC studentships will cover Home/EU fees and pay an annual stipend of £13,726 per, are only available to Home or EU students and can be part time or full time (up to 4 years of funding).
