Candidates are sought with a range of practical hardware embedded electronics skills to conductexperimental hands-on research on hardware-in-the-loop embedded electronic systems for unmanned autonomous aerial vehicle technologies.
You will be responsible for designing electronic embedded systems hardware and integrating commercially available hardware to create a fully autonomous gimballed sensor platform rig that could be mounted onboard generic small scale Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in order to interface at the guidance level with the onboard flight control system, thereby enabling sensor information to be used intelligently to instruct the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle where it needs to go and where it needs to point the onboard sensor.
You should hold, or expect to obtain, a PhD (or have equivalent research experience), in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineeringor a closely related subject.
You will be able to program at device level (having outstanding C programming skills and understanding of microprocessor hardware), have experience of interfacing different electronic hardware to form a complete system (including interfacing of systems with different software protocols to transfer information from a sensor to the computing board or from the computing board to the wireless communications subsystem), and have extensive hardware hands-on embedded systems experience.
You will be working within an interdisciplinary team, comprising academics, other PDRAs and PhD students, so excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also essential.
